Hello lovelies,
And hello May! How I have waited for your warmth.. And for us YA bookjunkies it is also a special month, celebrating the release dates of long awaited sequels like “A Court of Wings and Ruin”, “Lord of Shadows” and “Always and Forever, Lara Jean”. We are all so excited that we decided to dedicate May to “Recaps”. (Hint: you can expect recaps of series from authors like Sarah J. Maas, Cassandra Clare, Jenny Han, Marissa Meyer and ofc, Marie Lu.)
And here follows my review for the 3rd and final book in “The Young Elites” series – “The Midnight Star”.
The story follows yet again a few months after the ending of “The Rose Society”, our Adelina has alienated everyone and is in the darkest possible place ever. Even more angry and lonely, she has set on a quest to conquer and destroy everything staying in her way:
“I remember her as clearly as if she were standing before me. She was ice personified. There was once a time when darkness shrouded the world, and the darkness had a queen.”
But her gift is growing wilder and out of control by the day, and she soon realizes that what is her stronger asset is also her biggest weakness and curse. You remember the saying “with great power..”. As the Elites are slowly dimming as a consequence to their powers, the Daggers and the Roses are joining forces in a deathly quest that may be on the losing side for all of them.
Lu is adding the final touches to a deathly story and portraying the struggles not only of our fictional characters, but also in our daily lives. All of us carry light and darkness inside us, we are what we choose to act upon. I am fascinated by the way the author weaves the threats of this epic story, to reach the end of the journey of the children of the Gods.
And what will be the fate of the White Wolf? Will she emerge victorious and bathe in riches and blood? Or will she fall to her endless quests, broken and forgotten?
“Someday, when I am nothing but dust and wind, what tale will they tell about me?”
If you also can’t wait to see the ending of the series do dive in back in the story. I promise, the ending will surprise you!
I would like to finish this review with standing ovations on my side for Marie Lu. I love those series even more than her previous series (Legend) and can hardly wait for her next project with the first book coming out in September 2017 (check out Warcross). I am giving a full 5 out of 5 crosses for story, development, character building, world building, love story, epicness and conclusion!
And again, a quote for ending:
Said the man to the sun, “How I wish you could shine your light on every day of my life!” Said the sun to the man, “But only with the rain and the night could you recognize my light.”
(For all of you like me here in Maastricht that miss the sun a bit too much, he he).
Until soon,
