Hebben jullie afgelopen weekend ook allemaal Donna Freitas leren kennen tijdens het YALFest? Ik keek hier ontzettend naar uit omdat ik Unplugged had gelezen ter voorbereiding op het YALFest, en ik wil jullie graag vertellen wat ik van haar boek vond.

Unplugged gaat over een meisje, Sky, die in de App-wereld leeft. Op jonge leeftijd is ze ingeplugd op de virtuele wereld in de hoop op een beter leven. Helaas hunkert Sky naar het moment dat ze mag uitpluggen en de echte wereld in mag. Helaas wordt dit moment haar afgenomen en kan ze niet meer ontsnappen aan de virtuele werkelijkheid. Maar wat als ze illegaal uitplugt? Wat voor wereld zal ze tegemoet gaan?

Another day, another review. Today I’m reviewing ‘The Upside of Unrequited’ by Becky Albertalli. Maybe you know her from the popular book 'Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda’? In 'The Upside of Unrequited' we follow Molly Peskin-Suso, a girl that has had a lot of crushes but never kissed or had any contact with boys in that way. Her sister is the complete opposite of Molly and really wants to help her. Fortunately her girlfriend’s best friend is a funny, handsome and overal perfect first boyfriend (and they call him Hipster Will). But there’s a tiny problem. Molly met a very funny and awkward nerd named Reid at her work. She doesn’t think she would fall for him, or maybe she will?

Een nieuwe dag, een nieuwe review. Vandaag review ik voor jullie het book ‘The Upside of Unrequited’ van Becky Albertalli. Misschien kennen jullie haar al van het populaire boek 'Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda’? In 'The Upside of Unrequited' volgen we Molly Peskin-Suso, een meisje dat al heel vaak een crush heeft gehad maar nog nooit heeft gekust of ander contact met jongens heeft gehad. Haar zus daarentegen is het tegenovergestelde en wil haar daarom heel graag helpen. De beste vriend van haar vriendin is namelijk een hele grappige, leuke en perfecte jongen om het eerste vriendje van Molly te zijn (en ze noemen hem Hipster Will). Maar er is een probleempje. Molly heeft op haar werk een grappige en ongemakkelijke nerd, genaamd Reid, ontmoet. Ze denkt dat ze niet voor hem zou kunnen vallen, of toch wel?

Hoi lieve lezers!
Ik heb weer een super mooi contemporary young adult boek gelezen die ik echt met jullie moet delen! Het is een boek met een wat zwaarder thema, maar eentje die zeker de moeite waard is! Het boek gaat over een meisje die een psychose krijgt en verteld in detail wat er allemaal in haar hoofd om gaat. Een prachtige psychologische young adult roman.

Eerste Leven door Gena Showalter

Al vanaf het eerste hoofdstuk uit 'Eerste Leven' herinnerde ik me weer hoeveel plezier ik aan de Alice in Zombieland boeken van Gena Showalter had beleefd. Nu ook 'First Life' naar het Nederlands is vertaald, wilde ik er zo snel mogelijk in beginnen, en het verhaal pakte me meteen.

I hope you all are reading something great at the moment. Do send me suggestions if you feel that I will like a book – I would love that! 

In the meantime I have been reading the sequel of “The Young Elites” and as I promised you I can conclude that, YES, it is better than the 1st book. With a solid 5 out of 5 crosses! Bow to Marie Lu, may you live a long and healthy happy life, filled with new book ideas and projects. 

Let’s start with an example of one of the quotes I enjoy sooo much about those books. They could be folklore tales, historical excerpts or personal quotes, located at the beginning of most of the chapters. Small details like that always make me feel even more captivated with the suggested fictional world. As it was said once “the devil is in the details”. Lu doesn’t disappoint here.
